Class One build lego zip wires

After learning about the inventor of lego, Ole Kirk Christiansen, the children were challenged to build a lego zip wire.  This led to lots of discussion about the difference the angle of the slope made, gravity, and forces.  For example if the angle of the slope were too great, gravity pulled it down fast and because there was no breaking or friction to slow him down the force with which he reached the end of the zip wire meant he broke into pieces!  The children showed great determination and resilience during this activity as well as being very proud when their zip wires we

Class One's fabulous stories based on 'The Magic Porridge Pot'

Over the last few weeks the children in Class One have been learning how to write their own version of 'The Magic Porridge Pot'.  We began by learning the story off by heart, then we worked as a group to create our own version which we turned into an e-book in our computing lessons.  Finally the children worked independently to create their very own versions.  Enjoy!

Autumn Walk

As part of Class One's science topic on the seasons the children were lucky enough to get outside in the sunshine this afternoon as they went on an autumn walk.  The children were challenged to find lots of different signs of Autumn along the way, they were fantastic at using their observational skills and managed to find everything on the list! One of the highlights of our walk was finding great piles of leaves that we could kick, what fun!

Class One watch Finding Dory at the cinema

On Monday Class One were lucky enough to join some of the other schools in the federation on their trip to watch Finding Dory at the cinema.  What a treat!  All of the children really enjoyed the film and with the help learnt an important lesson to help them with their learning: When things are hard, don't give up!  There's always another way!  We all agreed that this was a really positive attitude to have when learning gets tricky and promised to try to think in the same way.  The children then made a display to help them remember this import

Mini Crickets

Class One have been really lucky to experience cricket lessons with Scott Chappell from the Devon Cricket Association.  Not only have the children been exposed to cricket from a passionate and experienced player but it has raised their interest in the sport, honed their cricketing skills, (throwing, catching, batting and fielding), but they have also been brilliant at working as part of a team.  It was a real pleasure to watch the older children support the younger children.

The chicks return

Today Mr Fearon kindly brought the once little chicks that Class One hatched back to school so that we could see how they had grown.  The children were amazed at the difference!  All the children impressed us with how much they had remembered about the chicks and their lifecyle.

Super cool sunglasses

In Science week the children in Class One have been learning about the importance of protecting themselves in the sun.  They watched the slip, slop, slap campaign and have been using the ditty to remind themselves what to do before going out to play.  The children also learnt about the reasons for wearing sun glasses and designed and made their own pair.  The glasses were a challenge to make as they needed to be rigid so they didn't break yet flexible enough to wear, they need to protect the eyes and of course look cool.  What do you think?

Monday 14th March 2016

Today some chick eggs were delivered to Class One.  The eggs were put in an incubator to keep them warm, it does the job of the mother Hen.  A few of us have heard some cheeping!  We expect the eggs to hatch on the 16th March.
