Bovey Castle Trip, June 2018

Our KS2 pupils were invited to Bovey Castle by Iain Wylie who is the Estates and Activities Manager there.  We had the most fantastic time in the sunshine!  We met a number of fabulous birds of prey including an American Bald Eagle and saw a young hawk being flown for one of the very first times.  We then were taken by Iain and Vicky up to the deer fields on the hill opposite the castle, to meet their herd of fallow deer.  Many of the females had young fawns and needed extra nutrition to help produce milk to feed them.  To help them, we got the opportunity to feed them sugar beet pellets - the whole herd followed us (and our food) all around the field!  We then went back up to the castle to meet two tiny orphan fawns which are being hand-reared and some of us had the opportunity to bottle feed them.  We then ate our lunch and played on the play-equipment before setting off for our final activity which was following a brass-rubbing trail.  We had an amazing day and hope to return soon!
