Class One go back in time!

Class One visited Morwellham Quay as an introduction to a new topic on the Victorians, focussing on life as a child.
The children were able to experience a Victorian classroom, the strict teachers and harsh punishments. They had the opportunity to learn about and dress up in Victorian clothing and walk around the village as a ‘Victorian’ focussing on how you would address the people that you met along the way.  During the afternoon the children went on the train into the copper mine to learn about the sort of conditions the boys, (from the age of 9), had to work in and comparing this to the work of young children and girls.  Finally the children visited some Victorian houses looking at the differences between the rich and poor.
The children were unanimous in their agreement that life is much better as a child now than in the Victorian times.
