Art Competition, February 2017

Mrs Beard, who is organising the next Doddi Art Show which takes place during October half-term, came into our assembly and told us about an exciting competition that the Art Show Committee is running for the children of the school.  They would like every child to draw a picture about what Doddi School means to them.  These pictures will need to be back in school by Friday, 24th February so that judging can take place.  The winning pictures from Pre-school, Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 will take pride of place on the cover of the Doddi Art Show programme.  Good luck

Play Leaders' Competition Results, February 2017

Our fantastic four play leaders organised an exciting competition for all the pupils in the school.  It involved the pupils moving a ball either in a figure of 8 around their legs or a more difficult version called swap catch!  It was a very closely fought competition and the results below show the pupils who gained the highest scores:

Class One learn 'The Dinosaur Rap' off by heart.

This week Class One have been listening to lots of different poems.  Alongside learning a poem of choice off by heart the children have also worked collaboratively to learn and perform 'The Dinosaur Rap' by John Foster.  We hope you enjoy watching their performance of the poem.

Our version of 'The Dragon Machine'

Over the last 3 weeks the children have written their own stories based on 'The Dragon Machine' by Helen Ward.  The children have worked hard to include powerful verbs, adverbial phrases and complex sentences.  Once the stories were complete the children then edited their finished work and included an image.  We hope you enjoy reading them.

Book Collection for Refugees, January 2017

The School Council have set up a book collection to help the youngest refugees in Souda Camp on the island of Chios in the Mediterranean get their right to a good education.  The School Council would like donations of picture books and books aimed at children aged 6 years and younger to help build up the library that is being set up in the camp. Please send any donations in before half term.  Many thanks for your help.

World War II Topic in KS2, January 2017

The history topic for the Key Stage 2 pupils this term is all about World War II and what it would have been like to be a child living in the era.  So far, the children have learned about the reasons why the war started, about the effect of the blitz and about shelters (they have even made their own cardboard versions!)  The pupils are so enthusiastic about this topic that some have brought World War II artefacts into school to share with the class.  The photograph shows one of our Year 6 pupils trying on a sheepskin flying-jacket from the period.
