Off by Heart Competition, November 2016

This year's annual poetry reciting competition, Off by Heart, was the very best yet.  It was entered by a record 36 pupils, from the very youngest reception children to the oldest children in Year 6.  They chose and learnt from a variety of poems and then performed them in front of a very appreciative audience.  The judges, Mr and Mrs Cupper, and Nigel Canham, a journalist, had a very tricky job of choosing the winners from amongst our talented youngsters.  These especially great artistes, who each won a book token for their performance, are pictured below

Autumn Walk

As part of Class One's science topic on the seasons the children were lucky enough to get outside in the sunshine this afternoon as they went on an autumn walk.  The children were challenged to find lots of different signs of Autumn along the way, they were fantastic at using their observational skills and managed to find everything on the list! One of the highlights of our walk was finding great piles of leaves that we could kick, what fun!

Class One watch Finding Dory at the cinema

On Monday Class One were lucky enough to join some of the other schools in the federation on their trip to watch Finding Dory at the cinema.  What a treat!  All of the children really enjoyed the film and with the help learnt an important lesson to help them with their learning: When things are hard, don't give up!  There's always another way!  We all agreed that this was a really positive attitude to have when learning gets tricky and promised to try to think in the same way.  The children then made a display to help them remember this import

Halloween Celebrations, October 2016

The children had great fun celebrating Halloween at Doddi this year.  Lisa made a very special Halloween lunch and decorated the hall so that the pupils could really get into the spirit of the occasion.  After school, the Doddi Friends organised a very exciting Halloween party where the children dressed up as ghouls and ghosties (and many other scary beasties). They shared a meal of very frightening food and then played a number of truly gruesome games!  Many thanks to Lisa and Friends for making Halloween special for the children this year.

Half-Term Assembly, October 2016

At the end of the first half-term of the year, the school congregated in the hall for an assembly.  Mr Arnold talked to the children and congratulated them on earning so many house-points so far during the year.  He announced that Powderham House currently had the most house points altogether but that the other two houses were not far behind!  He also congratulated these lovely children (see the photograph) because they have all been in school for every day so far this term despite the nasty bugs that have been doing the rounds.  Well done to them!

Talented artists at Doddi, October 2016

We are currently flushed with artistic success here at Doddi School as a result of entering the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England's special art competition last term.  We sent in our beautiful artwork of the outside environment and have been rewarded with being the runners up in the school's competition, winning a £50 gift voucher for Muddy Places.  Not only did we win this stunning prize, but one of our Class 1 girls was the overall winner out of all the Key Stage 1 entries.  Well done Doddi pupils - you are Picassos in the making!

Class 3 make Friendly Plastic, October 2016

As part of their Science Week, the Class 3 children have been looking at reversible and irreversible changes.  As an example of an irreversible change, they made their very own plastic in the classroom, using friendly, renewable materials (milk and vinegar), which they have used to make into special mascots.  Look at the photographs to see the process in action!

First Bronze Stars Awarded! October 2016

The children have been working very hard this term and have been earning many house-points.  Some children have really excelled themselves and have already been awarded 1,000 house-points, meaning that they have won the coveted bronze-star which they will be able to proudly wear on their shirt collars. The photographs show the children from each class who have already reached this level.  There are also many more pupils who are now within reach of this fantastic achievement.  Well done Doddi learners!
