Lunch, music and mince-pies! December 2016

What a fabulous foodie and musical day we shared together!  Firstly, all the children, staff and some of our governors, ate a wonderful Christmas lunch prepared by our wonderful cook, Lisa, ably assisted by Mrs Cook.  Then the children entertained the parents to some fabulous musical performances, whilst the adults drank coffee and ate mince pies in a wonderful cafe ambience!  It really was an un-missable Christmas treat!

Mel Stride, MP for Central Devon, visited Doddi School to award a very special prize to one of our Year 5 girls.  She entered a competition to design a special Christmas card for Mel, and won!  All the children were pleased to meet Mel and our winner was delighted to receive a framed copy of her card and to have a special photograph taken with a real VIP!

Hoodwinked! It's panto time at Doddi! December 2016

This year's Christmas play was 'Hoodwinked', a pantomime based on the legend of Robin Hood.  The Key Stage 2 children told the story of Robin's battle against the evil Sheriff of Nottingham with their fantastic acting and singing, and the Key Stage 1 children brought three of the songs to life with their fabulous dancing.  Both shows were really well attended by family and friends and even a posse of ex-Doddi pupils came back to enjoy the spectacle.  Many thanks to all the parents who made costumes, helped shift furniture and

Christingle at Doddi, December 2016

To mark the start of the Christmas period, the children held their Christingle Service in Doddiscombsleigh Church.  After making the Christingles in the school hall and practising the carols, the children were ready to celebrate the event.  They, and their families, met at school to process to the church using their torches and lanterns to guide the way.  Once inside, Reverend Mayer led the service which included readings telling the Christmas story, an explanation of the symbolism of the actual Christingle and a collection of money for the Children's Society to

Class One's fabulous stories based on 'The Magic Porridge Pot'

Over the last few weeks the children in Class One have been learning how to write their own version of 'The Magic Porridge Pot'.  We began by learning the story off by heart, then we worked as a group to create our own version which we turned into an e-book in our computing lessons.  Finally the children worked independently to create their very own versions.  Enjoy!

Chocology for KS2 at the Eden Project, November 2016

The KS2 children had a very exciting trip to the Eden Project to take part in a chocology workshop.  For those children who had never visited Eden before, just the mere fact of being in such a a fantastic place was an amazing experience; for everyone else, it was great to learn more about chocolate from an expert and to see real cocoa pods growing on the trees inside the rainforest biome.  The children also thoroughly enjoyed exploring all three biomes to experience the different climatic conditions in each one.  It was an unforgettable day!
