Theatre Alibi Trip, November 2016

What an adventure!  The whole school, transported in two mini-buses, went to the Teign Valley Hall to see this year's Theatre Alibi production.  The story, called 'The Boy who Climbed into the Moon', was about a lonely boy who has the idea of touching the sky.  When he puts the idea into action, a whole string of adventures follow.  The children were all spellbound as the story unfolded before them, told with real-life actors and puppets.  It is bound to inspire some of their own dazzling and magnificent stories!

Christmas Craft Club, November 2016

Christmas Craft Club, run by Mrs Beard along with a willing band of parents, is taking place on Mondays after school in the run-up to Christmas.  During the first session, the children made some very gorgeous Christmas bells which will look wonderful gracing the homes of Doddi families over the festive season.

Fairtrade Assembly and Great Mayan Cake Bake, November 2016

As a Rights Respecting school, we have been learning all about Fairtrade - how it helps farmers around the world and how it is important to buy Fairtrade goods where we can.  We put together an assembly to tell the KS1 children and parents about this topic.  We also used Fairtrade ingredients to make lots of delicious cakes to sell in order to raise money for Children in Need.  The cake sale had a Mayan theme because we have been looking at the ancient Mayans in our history lessons.  We dressed up in brightly-coloured Mayan style clothing and sold our cake

Remembrance Day at Doddi, November 2016

Mr Horton, who serves with the Royal Navy, came to talk to the children about the importance of Remembrance Day in honouring those who gave their lives in combat.  He also brought in lots of his equipment, so that the children could have a look at it all - they even got to try on his helmet and body armour!  They used light sticks in the darkened hall and also got to look at the room using his night-vision goggles.  It was a very informative and interesting assembly.

Off by Heart Competition, November 2016

This year's annual poetry reciting competition, Off by Heart, was the very best yet.  It was entered by a record 36 pupils, from the very youngest reception children to the oldest children in Year 6.  They chose and learnt from a variety of poems and then performed them in front of a very appreciative audience.  The judges, Mr and Mrs Cupper, and Nigel Canham, a journalist, had a very tricky job of choosing the winners from amongst our talented youngsters.  These especially great artistes, who each won a book token for their performance, are pictured below

Autumn Walk

As part of Class One's science topic on the seasons the children were lucky enough to get outside in the sunshine this afternoon as they went on an autumn walk.  The children were challenged to find lots of different signs of Autumn along the way, they were fantastic at using their observational skills and managed to find everything on the list! One of the highlights of our walk was finding great piles of leaves that we could kick, what fun!

Class One watch Finding Dory at the cinema

On Monday Class One were lucky enough to join some of the other schools in the federation on their trip to watch Finding Dory at the cinema.  What a treat!  All of the children really enjoyed the film and with the help learnt an important lesson to help them with their learning: When things are hard, don't give up!  There's always another way!  We all agreed that this was a really positive attitude to have when learning gets tricky and promised to try to think in the same way.  The children then made a display to help them remember this import
