Rights Assembly, July 2016

The children in Key Stage 2 have been working hard to help the children in Class 1 remember their rights.  They worked in small groups and chose how they would put across their messages in a special rights assembly.  Some groups made posters which were eye-catching and informative, one group made a powerpoint which also included a quiz, one group made up a 'Remember your Rights Game', which they played with the younger children, and the last group made up a special rights song with actions, which they performed for everyone (please click on the link to see a film of this song!)  The KS1 children really enjoyed this assembly and could remember far more of their rights by the end.  Well done to our hard-working KS2 pupils!

Mrs Evans Goodbye Tea Party, July 2016

As part of our goodbye to Mrs Evans, we held a fantastic tea-party on the school playground to celebrate her ten years with us and to wish her a very happy retirement.  Andy Treene gave a speech about how important Mrs Evans has been to us here at Doddi and she then unwrapped her enormous leaving present - a beautiful bench upon which she will be able to sit and instantly be transported back to us!  She was also given an almost equally large card made with love by all the children.  We then tucked into a delicious tea provided by our lovely parents.  Good luck

Mrs Evans' Activity Day, July 2016

We held an Activity Day at the Teign Valley Hall so that all the pupils and staff could share a last, fun-filled event with Mrs Evans.  We began by making team mascots and flags for the three house teams - The Blue Brothers, The Golden Nuggets and The Noble Bloods!  Then the activities, led by Tim Flint, began on the field.  We played lots of games together, including: the plank game, which involved the children getting themselves in name or height order balancing on a plank; raid the nest, where the teams tried to acquire as many goodies from the central store

Potato Harvest, July 2016

Each class in the school took part in the Grow your own Potatoes competition.  They carefully watered and tended their crops, hoping that their class would grow the most potatoes with the greatest weight.  After the potatoes were harvested, the crop was counted and weighed.  The winning class this year was Class 3 with 98 potatoes weighing in at 1,930g.  In second place was Class 2 with 92 potatoes weighing 1,610g, and Class 1 came third with 90 potatoes weighing 1,375g.  The harvest was then taken to the school kitchen where Lisa cooked them for us all to share &nd

French Children's Visit, July 2016

As part of the French Twinning Association, twelve French students stayed with Doddi families on their visit to England.  These children, plus their accompanying adults, came into Doddi to experience life in our lovely school.  Their visit began with a quick Awake and Shake session and they then joined pupils in Classes 2 and 3 in a cookery session, making some delicious scones which they later enjoyed with some tasty jam.  After a question and answer session, the children, in mixed teams, took part in a sporting competition consisting of five different activit

Doddi's Got Talent, July 2016

We were treated to an amazing array of acts this year during the Doddi’s Got Talent show.  There were dance acts, musical acts, skipping acts and comedy acts (including Jonny’s which involved humiliating three of the teachers by making them parade on a catwalk wearing rather suspect costumes!)  We also bade a fond farewell to our student, Mr Leader, who has been working at the school for the summer term.  It was a really great afternoon, enjoyed by all.  The fantastic talent show winners can be seen in the photograph below.

Rock and Rapid Residential, June 2016

The Key Stage 2 children had an amazing time on their residential at Rock and Rapids Adventure Centre.  On site, the 21 intrepid children were challenged in many ways: could they climb a vertical wall? …. yes!; could they swing from a high balcony on a rope? … yes!; could they follow a low ropes course without falling to the muddy ground? … yes! and finally, could they abseil down a long rope whilst being suspended in mid-air?
