Potato Harvest, June 2017

Each year, we enter the Grow Your Own Potatoes competition, where each class tries to grow the heaviest crop of potatoes.  This year was, unfortunately,  no competition at all!.  The potato bags of Class 1 and 2, which were kept in a shady area by the school gate, produced very few potatoes, with hardly any big ones at all.  The potato bags of Class 3 were kept outside the back door of their classroom and they seemed to fare much better, producing far more potatoes of a bigger size.  The end results were:  Class 1 – 500g, Class 2 – 200g and Cla

Year 5 Maths Challenge Triumph, June 2017

Our fantastic Year 5 maths team, consisting of Louann, Alice, Samuel and Rosie, took part in the annual Primary Maths Challenge at Maynard School.  They pitted their mathematical wits against eleven other teams, solving difficult maths problems including a number relay and number crossword!  They had a great time working as a team to solve each problem and came third overall.  Well done Doddi mathematicians!

Charmouth Visit, June 2017

The whole school decamped to Charmouth for the day to make beautiful beach art from found natural objects and learn about how fossils are formed.  Phil, a palaeontologist from the Heritage Centre, took us onto the beach to search for the fossil remains of ancient creatures such as crinoids, belemnites and ammonites.  We all had a fantasticand very exciting time hunting for fossils whilst enjoying the warm sunshine in beautiful surroundings.  What a great day!

Doddi's Got Talent 2017

This year's Doddi's Got Talent Show was a fantastic event, thoroughly enjoyed by pupils and parents alike.  There was a huge array of different acts ranging from gymnastics displays and magic acts, to musical performances and comedy acts (one, of course, with the obligatory 'embarrass the teachers' motif!)  Doing the very difficult job of judging this year were Jane and Ann, who are part of the Open the Book assembly group.  Our winners from KS1 were George and Evie, with Sophie winning in KS2 - both winning acts were very funny comedy turns.&nb

Class One Topic Letter - Summer 2 2017

Class One visit Teignmouth Beach

As part of our Geography topic on the seaside the children in Class One were lucky enough to visit Teignmouth beach. The children were challenged to identify six man made and six natural items that you might find at the seaside as well as identifying key features of Teignmouth beach such as the pier and the harbour. After lunch the children engaged in some typical beach activities such as digging, creating pictures with sticks or shells as well as the most popular activity... jumping waves!

Machine-Building by Class 3, May 2017

The Class 3 children learnt about different types of force such as gravity, air resistance, friction and upthrust during their science week.  They also looked at the workings of simple machines which use levers, springs, gears and pulleys.  They then made their own simple machines using a variety of different mechanisms and demonstrated them to the rest of the pupils.  Some, such as Sophie's rubber-band-powered car transporting a Sylvanian family, worked really well!
