Jonah and the Whale, December 2017

Our Christmas performance this year was based on the bible story of Jonah and the Whale with some rather unusual additional characters!  The Key Stage 2 children thoroughly enjoyed bringing this story to life with their fantastic acting; the Key Stage 1 children added an extra dimension with their lively dancing and everyone sang the songs with great gusto.  It was a fabulous performance, enjoyed by one and all.

Fizz Pop Science Assembly, December 2017

A Fizz Pop Science scientist came into school to take an assembly all about air.  He showed us how to blow up a massive balloon with virtually no effort at all; how to suck a balloon, called Bob, into a tiny container and how to 'hit' people with a pressure wave.  It was all very exciting.  If children want to learn even more about different aspects of science in an exciting and hands-on way, Fizz Pop will be running a science club in school at the beginning of 2018.

Key Stage 2 High-5 Tournament, December 2017

Five of the Class 3 pupils played in a high-5 tournament against Chudleigh Knighton, Bearnes and Hennock primary schools.  It was a close fought competition, demonstrating many of the pupils' sporting skills and was enjoyed by everyone.  Doddi played with great enthusiasm and came third overall.  Well done Doddi!

Christingle Service, December 2017

It's nearly Christmas time and so the pupils all gathered in the hall to make their own Christingles and later took part in a torch-lit procession to Doddi Church for the school's Christingle service.  It was a lovely service with readings by the pupils, the singing of traditional Christmas carols and the lighting of the Christingle candles.  We also took a collection for the Children's Society to help other children enjoy their rights.

KS2 Orienteering Day, November 2017

The KS2 children had a very active day learning lots of orienteering skills at school with Mr Flint, and then trying them out at Haldon Forest.  They worked in small teams racing against against one another other and used maps to find the twelve markers hanging from branches, fences and seats.  The winning team consisted of three Year 3 boys - well done to them.  It was a fantastic day full of activity and fun.

Children in Need Jungle Bake, November 2017

The Key Stage 2 children organised an amazing Jungle Bake in order to raise money for Children in Need Day.  They worked in groups designing their own stalls and planning which jungle-themed cakes and biscuits each child would bring in to sell on the day.  It was a magnificent success, well-attended by parents and friends of Doddi School, and raised an amazing £155 which will help other children in the UK to enjoy their rights.  Many, many thanks to everyone involved.

Remembrance Assembly, November 2017

Mr Poole came into school to give our special Remembrance Day Assembly.  He talked to the children about why poppies are sold and how the money raised goes to help injured service-men and women.  He brought in 28 small wooden crosses for each of the 28 local men killed during the two world wars.  The children worked in pairs to write the name of each of these men onto a label and attach it to a cross.  These crosses will be placed around the war memorial on the village triangle on Sunday.
