The noisy night

After hearing how Discovery Dog and Naughty Nora were frightened of loud noises, especially fireworks, Class One decided to help!

The children conducted an experiment to test which material would be best to make ear defenders from.

First they predicted which material, out of plastic, fabric, fleece and cotton wool would be best.   Then they predicted that cotton wool would be best as it would plug the hole in your ear and stop any sound from getting in.  The children also thought that it would be nice and soft.

Remembrance Day, November 2013

Mr Poole came into school to lead our special Remembrance Day assembly.  He talked about the 29 young men of the village, all who would have attended Doddi School and who fought for us during the war.  He explained how important it is that we remember each one of them.  We made a name tag for each man and attached them to small wooden crosses to be placed around the village memorial on Remembrance Sunday.

Young Playleaders Session, November 2013

Mr Flint, a PE teacher from Teign School, came in to talk to the Key Stage 2 children about the Young Play Leader scheme.  Firstly, the children wrote down the words that they thought a YPL should be - energetic, nurturing and friendly were some of the words they chose.  Then the children got into small groups to build up their cup-stacking skills using small plastic cups.  Then each group chose their fastest cup-stackers to play against each other.  Millie won with 11 seconds and Ashley was second with 13 seconds.  What an achievement!  Mr Flint then work

Doddi School Art Show, October/November 2013

The Doddi Art Show, this year held at the Teign Valley Hall, opened with great success.  Over three hundred people attended the preview event and were treated to a performance from the Doddi School Choir led by Sarah Owen, from Wren Music.  The Show was packed with the most fabulous artworks (please look at the photographs!) including paintings in a wide variety of media, photographs and sculptures.  There was also a shop selling a wide variety of craft items and a cafe offering a range of very tasty snacks and cakes, manned by many of the parents.  Hundreds and hun

Mr Benn at Doddi - Day Two

The children have had another fantastic day with more opportunities for screen printing, exploring using wire to create sculptures and designing and making an outfit for the gladiator. Class One worked extremely hard to bring together all the elements of their art work to create the finished piece.  The artwork will be on display at the Doddi Art show and will also be used at the production of Mr Benn at the Northcott in December.  The children can't wait!

Off By Heart, October 2013

What a fantastic celebration of poetry we had during our Off By Heart Competition held here in the school hall.  Members of each class came to recite a poem they had learnt; some even dressed up to really look the part and one poem was sung beautifully!  The judging was kindly done by one of our governors, Tony Porter, who had the very tricky job of picking just one winner from each class.  The winner from Class One was Amos, the winner from Class Two was Fleur and the winner from Class Three was Aine.  Well done to all participants and thanks to all the parent

Mr Benn at Doddi - Day One

Class One have been working creatively and imaginatively to produce some art work with the Daisi artist, Kate Barker, and the assistance of some PGCE students from Exeter University, for the production of Mr Benn, showing at the Northcott Theatre in December.  The children chose their three favourite Mr Benn characters; the spaceman, the gladiator and the red knight, and have focused on producing pieces of art based on the stories involving these characters.  As well as practising their drawing skills the children have also experienced mono printing and screen printing.  Clas
