Reading Roundabout Assembly, December 2013

Our fabulous Class 2 and 3 pupils proudly received their Reading Roundabout certificates during a special assembly led by Carolyn Kennet from the School's Library Service.  She talked to them about the importance of reading from a variety of different genres and then shared a very silly story with us about a rhino who fell in love!  Some of the children shared their favourite books by reading out their book reviews and then all those children who had read their six Reading Roundabout books (some had read many, many more!) received their certificates.

Christingle Making, December 2013

The beginning of Christmas is officially here!  The making of Christingles for our special service is when everyone begins to feel the prickle of excitement about the coming Christmas festivities.  Many of the children and their parents helped with the making of the traditional Christingles - an orange with sweets on the end of four cocktail sticks - each item representing part of the Christmas story.  Each child will receive one at the special service held at Doddi Church for the whole school community.

High-Five Tournament, November 2013

On Tuesday, 19th November, our Class 3 High-Five team played in a High-Five Tournament against Hennock, Rydon, Chudleigh Knighton and Chudleigh Schools.  Our team had a great start, beating Hennock 3:2 and then we played teams from the three other schools.  Unfortunately, we lost against these schools and ended up fourth.  However, we were pleased with this result because our team was mostly made up of small Year 5 pupils whereas the other teams had tall Year 6s.  The main thing was, we had fun!!

Children in Need Day at Doddi, Nov 2013

We had a fabulous Children in Need Day at school.  Firstly, everyone dressed up in pyjamas and onesies.  Class 3 then went to Teign School with Mrs Elworthy and Heather to join lots of other Year 5 and 6 pupils to develop their High-5 skills and play some games.  The children of Class 2 spent the morning making a tasty lunch of pizzas, baked potatoes, baked beans, fruit salad and yoghurt which everyone shared at lunchtime.  It was delicious - though the grown-ups had a big job of clearing up afterwards!  We raised a grand total of &poun

The noisy night

After hearing how Discovery Dog and Naughty Nora were frightened of loud noises, especially fireworks, Class One decided to help!

The children conducted an experiment to test which material would be best to make ear defenders from.

First they predicted which material, out of plastic, fabric, fleece and cotton wool would be best.   Then they predicted that cotton wool would be best as it would plug the hole in your ear and stop any sound from getting in.  The children also thought that it would be nice and soft.

Remembrance Day, November 2013

Mr Poole came into school to lead our special Remembrance Day assembly.  He talked about the 29 young men of the village, all who would have attended Doddi School and who fought for us during the war.  He explained how important it is that we remember each one of them.  We made a name tag for each man and attached them to small wooden crosses to be placed around the village memorial on Remembrance Sunday.

Young Playleaders Session, November 2013

Mr Flint, a PE teacher from Teign School, came in to talk to the Key Stage 2 children about the Young Play Leader scheme.  Firstly, the children wrote down the words that they thought a YPL should be - energetic, nurturing and friendly were some of the words they chose.  Then the children got into small groups to build up their cup-stacking skills using small plastic cups.  Then each group chose their fastest cup-stackers to play against each other.  Millie won with 11 seconds and Ashley was second with 13 seconds.  What an achievement!  Mr Flint then work
