Reading Roundabout, September 2013

As part of our welcome back to school, we had a visit from Mrs Kennett from the Devon Library Service.  She showed Class 1 how to use the library and then spent time in Key Stage 2 organising the Reading Roundabout.  This is a scheme to get children involved in reading books from a range of different genres.  She brought in books of many different types including those about imaginary worlds, fascinating facts and thrills and spills.  Each child chose a book, at the appropriate level, from each of the six genres, which they will then read during the coming

Goodbye Year 6, July 2013

The end of the school year culminated in the Year 6 Leavers' Assembly, where the whole school community said goodbye and good luck to our wonderful trio - Toby, Ieva and Evita - who will all be going on the Teign School in the autumn.  The Year 6s were treated to a virtual trip at the Bristol Balloon Festival where they became the central exhibition.   There were laughs and tears, presentations and awards, and many, many good wishes for these fantastic children.  We also bade a fond farewell to our lovely TA, Gaynor Stapowicz, who leaves us after four

Year 6 PEPI Presentations and Bowling, July 2013

As the school year draws to a close, our Year 6 pupils are very busy getting ready for their move to secondary school.  They have spent a number of weeks preparing their own PEPI project about something that they find really interesting.  This year we had a very different choice of subjects; Ieva chose the ten most important dates in the history of the universe, Evita chose Lithuania and Toby chose Formula 1.  They firstly presented their work to their fellow pupils and then to their parents at a special evening event.  Mrs McManus then took the three children to Ten Pin

Potatoes! July 2013

Each year, all three classes take part in the potato growing competition to see which of them can grow the heaviest crop of potatoes.  This year, the vegetables were harvested and then weighed and Class 3 ended up with the best crop weighing in at 2.325kg.  Mrs McManus and some of her KS2 children then spent a busy and hot few hours in the kitchen making potato scones and potato salad which was shared with the whole school community at lunchtime.  Delicious!

Scuba-diving, July 2013

Some of the older children in the school were given the opportunity to try out scuba-diving at Kingsteignton Pool at a session organised by St. Michael's C of E School.  They had the most fabulous time learning how to use the breathing apparatus and then exploring beneath the water surface.

Dictionary Presentation, July 2013

Two members from the Rotary Club of Chudleigh and Bovey Tracey came to award our Year 6 pupils with fabulous Usborne Illustrated Dictionaries to help them with their learning at their secondary schools next year.  Evita and Ieva were thrilled to be given their copies and, as Toby was out of school, Aaron received his dictionary for him.

Bradley Wiggins comes to Doddi!

After months of collecting small bits of plastic and three nights hard work, sorting, gluing, and having fun our own Bradley Wiggans has finally been completed.  He has been made from plastic which would have otherwise gone into landfill and we are very proud of the result. He is based on the art work of local artist Jane Perkins who will be exhibiting at our Doddiscombsleigh Art Show on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of November at Teign Valley Hall.

Healthy Eating at Doddi School, July 2013

The Key Stage 2 children have been learning all about food including what types of food are the best at keeping us healthy.  As part of this unit of work, the children used the 'Food a Fact of Life' website to track down some tasty healthy recipes.  The puils have made changes to these recipes that they think will make them even tastier - so take the challenge today - click on one of these recipes and tickle your tastebuds!
