Fabulous Recycled Bottle Greenhouse

After months of saving plastic bottles, a morning spent cleaning the bottles, cutting off the bottoms and threading them onto canes our greenhouse was ready for construction.  Mr Hutchinson very kindly volunteered his time and skills to complete the project for us.  And what spectacular result!  Gardening Club can't wait to use it!

Connor the Hedgehog rescuer!

Whilst walking to Mrs Cupper's house on Thursday Connor spotted a tiny hedgehog. Because of our work on habitats in science, Connor knew that a baby hedgehog out during the day is a cause for concern. Together they took the baby hedgehog (now named Lucky) home and put it on a warm hot water bottle, in a little box and took it to Prickly Ball Hedgehog hospital. The lady at the hedgehog hospital tried to feed and help Lucky.

Fun in the Sun - the Doddi Summer Fete, 2013

People from far and wide flocked to the Doddi Summer Fete this year to enjoy the many amusements set out around the school field.  The sun shone kindly upon us as things got underway with the opening of our new play area by the Doddi Chair of Governors, Bob Cope.  Then the fun began with the firm old-favourites like the bouncy castle, splat the rat, guess the weight of the (absolutely beautiful) cake, Year 6 Dragons Sale, delicious BBQ and cream teas and the bric-a-brac stall, and the new addition of sumo wrestling!  This fabulous community event was enjoy

Athletics Competition, Teign School, June 2013

Doddi took part in an exciting athletics competition held at Teign School against Rydon and Chudleigh Knighton schools.  Our team of 12 children from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 competed against the year 5s and 6s from the other two schools and did an excellent job, even when the rain began to pour making the ground underfoot very slippery!  Our team came second - well done to Toby, Ieva, Evita, Millie, Aine, Matty, Isaac, Sam C, Izzy, Anna, Fleur and Jonny.

KS2 Swimming, June 2013

The Key Stage 2 children have been very active at Bovey Swimming Pool during this summer term.  They have been working in three ability groups to improve their swimming skills.  All the pupils in the Turtles group gained their Level 4 Water Skills Grade and all the pupils in Sharks gained their Level 3.  In Dolphins, two children swam a width of the pool and two others nearly swam all the way across.  Really well done to all the children who worked so hard during these swimming sessions.

Athletics Competition at Doddi, June 2013

The Exeter College students organised an exciting athletics competition for their last visit to Doddi School.  They had a carousel of six different running, throwing and jumping activities and the children competed in teams, trying to do their very best in each event.  The photographs show a couple of these events taking place.

Doddi children learning about the Jewish Faith

We were visited by Robyn who is a Rabbi at the local Synagogue, (unfortunatley we were unable to visit due to building works).  Robyn talked to the children about Judaism andin particular the Friday night festival of Shabbat.  She talked to the children about the rituals followed and showed the children the items needed for Shabat, candles to remember the creation; wine to remember freedom and bread which is traditionally eaten.

Fire-Fighters Visit Doddi, June 2013

We were visited by Maxine and Carol from the Fire Service who came in to school to talk to the children about fire safety.  They showed the children the uniform that fire-fighters wear and we went on a virtual fire-engine ride through the streets.  The children learnt that 999 should be dialed only in an emergency and that if you find yourself on fire you should 'stop, drop and roll'.
