Jonah Wows All! December 2012

This year's Christmas play, Jonah and the Whale, brought a little sunshine to everyone's life during the dark and dreary days of winter.  The tale, set on a beach and also at the bottom of the sea, involved starfish, sharks and pirates and was quite a departure from the usual bible story.  It was enjoyed by large audiences made up of family and friends who were justifiably proud of their offspring who acted and sang beautifully.  A great artistic triumph for all the children of our little school!

Reading Roundabout Award Assembly

Mrs Kennett, from the School's Library Service, came into school to award the Key Stage 2 children their special certificates for taking part in the Reading Roundabout scheme.  This involved reading six books from a variety of different genres.  There were also some special awards given to those children who read extra books and those that wrote really fabulous book reviews.  A number of children also shared their ideas about their favourite books with the rest of the school.  Well done to everyone for taking part so enthusiastically!

Smile Please! December 2012

The Key Stage 2 children learnt how to look after their teeth during a session led by the Dental Health Team. They found out about the different types of human teeth, why it is so important to look after them and the sorts of foods that should be eaten sparingly. They then each chewed a disclosing tablet which showed up areas of plaque on the teeth as a dark purple colour and then cleaned their teeth for 2 minutes to remove all the colouring. It was a very informative and enjoyable afternoon and left the children with lovely white smiles!

Respect Afternoon, November 2012

Craig and Kevin from Torquay United Football Club came into Doddi to lead a respect session with the Key Stage 2 children.  Firstly, they found out what the children understood by respect and then what they thought both respectful and disrespectful behaviour might look like.  The session ended with the children completing a role-play activity where they thought of how disrespectful behaviour could be turned into respectful behaviour.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the session.
