Our Sessions

Our mornings begin when the children are welcomed into the pre-school room at 9.00am. We encourage parents and carers to come in and sit with children with a book to settle in until registration time.

We organise our sessions so that children can choose from and explore a range of activities. There are normally three or four specific activities on offer, but the sessions are very much led by the children and the direction that they want to take.

The children explore our themes through different topics and free play. Our newly refurbished pre-school room has areas for messy/creative play, sand and water play, ICT, quiet and cosy book area, construction and small world play as well as a role play and dressing up area.

The children have access to healthy snacks and water/milk through the morning session. When the session is coming to an end, the children help at tidy-up time and then have carpet time with singing or a story in a group.

We have lunch club from 12 – 1pm where the children and the pre-school staff sit together to eat their packed lunch or enjoy a nutritious school lunch, along with the other Primary school children.  This is a lovely, informal time to practise social interactions and converse, and enjoy a healthy meal.  It is also an introduction to school life.

The afternoon sessions run from 1pm to 3.30pm and will follow the pattern of the morning session, with a little emphasis on quiet time added in for any children who want to take a nap, or just ‘be’ for five minutes.

We make extensive use of the outdoor decking area and Pre-School garden for free-flow play and the playground for outdoor cycling. We also use the field and garden for outside learning and the school hall for exercise, cooking and soft play.

With the stunning Devon countryside on our doorstep both children and staff enjoy getting out for walks or visits to the farms, woodlands and moorland you can see from the pre-school.
